Startling myths about IIT- Believe it or not!
An IIT graduate is definitely most sought after in the business world. It is matter of great pride to receive education from IIT India and be ready to disseminate services to the country and the world.
The history of IIT system dates back to 1946 with the first Indian Institute of technology being inaugurated in 1950 at Hijli detention camp, Kharagpur. Here, first Indian Prime Minister Pandit Jwaharlal Nehru gave his speech saying “Here in the place of that Hijli Detention Camp stands the fine monument of India, representing India’s urges, India’s future in the making. This picture seems to me symbolical of the changes that are coming to India.” This clearly shows what great hope he had by the institute and history testifies that this legacy has been lived up to with great pride.
Saying this, I feel that most students are unaware of the startling myths that surround IIT education. It is important to have your facts and figures together so that the picture is clear and the road before you is free of impediments. This article clearly brings out what most students misconstrue on their journey to becoming an IITian.
- There are high number of placements for IITians and it is easy to get jobs: As I said in the beginning t that IITians are definitely most sought after but this doesn’t mean that you can sit back and relax thinking that there are good placements available. In this competitive world it is a myth that IITians hold a high number of placements. The fact remains that they too have to rival with the best to get the most plum job that will pay them a fat pay cheque. The number of placements has definitely decreased with the passing of time. So pull up your socks and don’t day dream. Face reality and take it on from there. This is the path to success!
- Cutting out leisure and groaning with sleepless nights is the only way to get those super grades: Yes believe me this is the biggest myth ever! It doesn’t have to be so tortuous. Take it easy, you don’t have to spend sleepless nights fidgeting with your books. You can crack the IIT exams with flying colours just by forming a workable timetable. It is that simple! - Only IIT Kharagpur has better laboratory facilities: Here is another rumour which is obviously not true. Be it Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kanpur or Patna, all centres are well equipped with Lab facilities. They are equally up to date with their faculty as well as facilities. It all depends on you. What you make you of what is available. If you feel that ‘my institute’ is not up to the mark then you will not be able to draw out the best from it.
