If there is no struggle, there is no progress!
Why have I posted this blog? This is just to interact with students like you who are looking for the right direction in life. I do not want to preach and add the usual jargon but I do want to give a frank view on the relationship of struggle with progress. Both these action verbs are interrelated so closely that they cannot be dissected into two. They in fact go hand in hand.
Now don’t get disheartened by this. It doesn’t mean you have to always sweat it out without any fun or play. Struggling is not something boring and tiresome. In fact it can be great fun to struggle and do something. For example if you are going for guitar classes for the first time, you might not know how to go about things. You might not be able to strum the guitar at all. At this point you have to step by step learn the notes and apply them by putting it into practice. You might need to do so repeatedly. This is called struggle!
When you make effort to achieve what you want to, that is called struggle. It is not rocket science it is a part and parcel of daily living. Albert Camus once said“There is scarcely any passion without struggle.” This is the positive aspect of struggling. When you are determined to make effort to achieve something then that gives rise to passion and passion gives rise to creativity and joy. So it is a win-win situation all the way.
If we take the word struggle in the negative sense we will only feel heavy and burdened. But all of us love the word progress. Yes don’t we all want to move forward and reach success? There is no progress without struggle.
Now that you know how struggle is related to progress how to go about things? How do you actually put this into practice so that you can feel it in your life? It is ok to read this but how to make it a reality. Read on below and you will get the trick:
Have a clear cut goal on which you will focus: Goals are important to be able to progress, in fact they are imperative. If you have a goal in front of you, you will work hard towards it and this will make you progress in life. Goals can be quite exciting. Once you have a goal you have a purpose and direction in life. This gives you a high and takes you along an adventurous journey.
Have a positive outlook and find ways to inspire yourself: Most students miss out on this point. Do not do that. To progress in life it is very important to be positive and inspire yourself. Now the question is how to achieve this. The key is to read inspiring books, talk to friends and family about future plans, look at the world as ones learning ground and be ready to absorb all that is good.
Train your self to work hard and persevere: The world is your stage and training ground. You should find ways to train yourself in perseverance which is another key attribute for progress. It needs great perseverance to get where you want to as without working at it again and again you will reach no where. Repeated effort is what will bring about results.
Have fun while working: Most of us seem to shun hard work. But the funny part is that work can be fun. For example if you are working out at the treadmill you can put on music to make it enjoyable. Similarly when you make work fun then life becomes enjoyable and light. You have to find creative ways to do that. May be you could use music, friends, hobbies, food and others to add that zing to work.
So pull up your socks and get going! You will be a winner if you just follow the above advice!
