Rotation JEE Chapterwise Analysis, Weightage and Overview
The most weighted chapter of mechanics and hands down a chapter that is a mine of questions. With a staggering 19 questions, it stands well above and ahead of all the other chapters in terms of direct questions. However, it is to be understood that the chapter isn’t simple and requires other chapters before it as prerequisites. This completes one big aspect of mechanics. Angular momentum and moment of inertia are important concepts. .

Q. Moment of inertia is independent of mass?
Moment of Inertia of a body depends on the distribution of mass in the body with respect to the axis of rotation. The moment of inertia of a body is directly proportional to its mass and increases as the mass is moved further from the axis of rotation. The fact that I depends on mass distribution means that the same body can have different moments of inertia depending on which axis of rotation we consider.
Q. How to know in problems that where we have to apply conservation of angular momentum?
An example of conservation of angular momentum is seen in an ice skater executing a spin, as shown in. The net torque on her is very close to zero, because 1) there is relatively little friction between her skates and the ice, and 2) the friction is exerted very close to the pivot point.
Q. There is a ring of mass M and radius R it is hanging from a ceiling with the help of a light rope will the tension at it's lowest point be 0 How?
I don't think it will be zero since the lowest point will also have some mass and the gravity force of this mass will be balanced by the tension force
Q. Solid sphere is a 3D object..then how we can apply perpendicular axis theorem on it?
Perpendicular Axis Theorem This theorem is applicable only to the planar bodies. Bodies which are flat with very less or negligible thickness. This theorem states that the moment of inertia of a planar body about an axis perpendicular to its plane is equal to the sum of its moments of inertia about two perpendicular axes concurrent with the perpendicular axis and lying in the plane of the body.
Q. what is toppling. it is in dc pandey book pls make me understand the topic?
If a body is resting on a rough slope, it will be on the verge of toppling over when the weight of the body acts through the edge of the part of the body which is in contact with the slope. Slope not steep enough for toppling to occur: Object on verge of toppling: Here the object will topple: This is because, about the edge of the object, there is a net anti-clockwise moment (turning effect). Remember, the weight acts through the centre of gravity of the object
