Children’s Day-A paean to children and their childhood
November 14th is not only Children’s day in India; it is also first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s birthday. This day is celebrated in a big way in the Indian subcontinent. Pandit Nehru was very fond of children and thought of them as the future of the country, thus his birthday is also celebrated as children’s day.
Why are children the future of the country? This is because they possess infinite potential to become strong and responsible youth who will be the cause of great progress around them. They are young and can be nurtured and moulded in a manner that is beneficial to the nation and its inhabitants. Pandit Nehru believed that it is by giving due care and nourishment to these kids that will make the nation strong and proud.
There have been various takes on when is children’s day going to be celebrated. Firstly the world conference held at Geneva proclaimed 1 June as children’s day. Then the United nations General Assembly assigned 20 November as World Children’s Day but India decided to celebrate theirs on their beloved Prime Minister’s birthday, a significant date in history.
On this grand day, the nation prides it self at taking special care of their kids and giving them a good time. Schools organise programmes that will interest the children as well as educate them. There are special competitions, story telling sessions, poetry, singing and dancing programmes and others. Teachers take on the special role of treating the students’ with care and honour.
Basically this day is assigned as children’s day so that a special effort is made towards the upliftment of children and the enforcement of their rights. It is day when the adults take responsibility for their kids and make sure that they grow up fine and capable. Children who are underprivileged are also given special attention by those who care. Orphanages receive gifts and money for the orphans. Donations are given for chidren’s education and food.
So let us also join in the celebrations and give our children a wonderful time, not just today but the year round-Always!
