Question

If abc are all distinct, then the equations (b – c)x + (c – a)y + a – b = 0 and (b3 – c3)x + (c3 – a3)y + a3 – b3 = 0 represent the same line if

Solution

Correct option is

a + b + c = 0

The given equation represents the same line if

and c2 – b2 + ca – ab = 0

i.e., if (b – a) (b + a + c) and (c – b) (c + b + a) = 0

i.e..               a + b + c = 0
