Question

A convex mirror of radius of curvature 20 cm forms an image which is half the size of the object. How far is the object from the mirror?

Solution

Correct option is

10 cm

Since a convex mirror can form only virtual image, its magnification will be positive. Thus

Using this value of v in  we have (∵ f = +10 cm)

or                  u = –10 cm

Thus the object is placed at a distance of 10 cm from the mirror.
