Find the equations of the line parallel to 5x – 12y + 26 = 0 and at a distance of 4 units from it.

Correct option is

5x – 12y – 26 = 0 and 5x – 12y + 78 = 0

 

Equation of any line parallel to 5x – 12y + 26 = 0 is  

          5x – 12y + λ = 0                          …(i)

Since the distance between the parallel lines is 4 units, them 

         

  

  

     

  

Substituting the values of λ in (i), we get  

        5x – 12y – 26 = 0 and 5x – 12y + 78 = 0
