Q.

Fig.. shows two identical parallel plate capacitors connected to a battery through a switch S. Initially, the switch is closed so that the capacitors are completely charge. The switch is now opened and the free space between the plates of the capacitors is filled with a dielectric of dielectric constant 3. Find the ratio of the initial total energy stored in the capacitors to the final total energy stored.

Q.

A parallel plate capacitor C is equally filled with parallel layers of materials of dielectric constants  Then the ratio of new capacitance to the previous capacitor is

Q.

A thin aluminum sheet is placed between the plates of a parallel – plate capacitor. Its capacitance will

Q.

capacitor in a defibrillator is charged to 3000 V. the energy stored in the capacitor is sent through the patient during a pulse of duration 2 ms.The power delivered to the patient is

Q. Is capacitor an important topic for JEE?

Yes it is an important topic for JEE as it can be learned easily as compared to other topics and can be strengthened by practicing more and more questions for it. It also carries weight age in 12th board

Q. What is a capacitor?

Capacitor is an electronic component that stores electric charge. The capacitor is made of 2 close conductors (usually plates) that are separated by a dielectric material. The plates accumulate electric charge when connected to power source. One plate accumulates positive charge and the other plate accumulates negative charge.

Q. How many types of capacitors are there?

There are three types of capacitors
1. Spherical capacitors
2. Cylindrical capacitors
3. Parallel Plate capacitors

Q. What is the Charge on a capacitor?

Charge on a capacitor is Q
Total charge is -Q + Q= 0.

Q. What is the use of a capacitor?

Below are few uses of capacitors
1. It can be used to store energy.
2. It is used in sensors
3. Power conditioning
4. Timing
5. Used in inverters

Q. A cell has an internal resistance . Likewise , Can a cell have internal capacitance?

no

Q. just like parallel plate capacitor if there is a dielectric medium of dielectric constant inside a spherical capacitor then also it's capacitance increases by a factor of K?

es , in case of sphere also , the capacitance is multiplied by k
C = k *C0

Q. An uncharged capacitor is connected to a battery. Show that half the energy supplied by the battery is lost as heat while charging the capacitor. Asked On:20/01/2017?

Energy supllied by battery = QV
energy stored in the capacitor = 1/2CV2, C= Q/V
= 1/2QV
energy loss as heat = QV - 1/2QV
