Q. what is mean by polar solvents?
Polar solvents have large dipole moments (aka “partial charges”); they contain bonds between atoms with very different electronegativities, such as oxygen and hydrogen.
Q. what is mean by non polar solvents?
Non polar solvents contain bonds between atoms with similar electronegativities, such as carbon and hydrogen (think hydrocarbons, such as gasoline).
Q. Covalency of carbon in the CO molecule is three because?
Covalency of carbon in the CO molecule is three because the carbon atom can be an acceptor of an electron pair. Thus, in CO molecule, 2 covalent and one coordinate bond is present.
Q. what is potential energy in bonds.its physical meaning and how potential energy decreases when bond is formed?
when two atoms are kept close to each other there is repulsive force between them, because of which there is internal potential energy between the two atoms , but when chemical bond is formed the electrons are shared between the atoms and due to less repulsive force , potential energy decreases, therefore when ever bond is formed enrgy is released from the system and when bond is broken we need to provide energy to separate the atoms.
