Q. Explain thermal stability of hydries of 16 group?
The thermal stability of the hydrides of group 16 elements decreases down the group, i.e., H2O > H2S > H2Se > H2Te > H2Po. This is because M-H bond dissociation energy decreases down the group with the increase in the size of central atom.
Q. Why AgI is insoluble in NH3 while AgCl is soluble?
AgI when dissolve in NH3 forms a precipitate [Ag(NH3)]I which is insoluble , where as (Ag(NH3)}Cl forms a stable cordination compound , therefore it is soluble
